Evans Ouma

Evans Ouma is the program manager and co-founder of Stretchers Youth Organization. Evans holds a diploma in project planning and management and a Diploma in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning. He is passionate about working with adolescents and young people on matters of sexual and reproductive health and rights. He has over 10 years’ experience in adolescent and youth programming, adolescents reproductive health, monitoring and evaluation, peer counseling, sexual reproductive health, behavioral change, and peer education approaches.
Mr. Evans Ouma has carved a niche in family planning, gender mainstreaming, and adolescents and young people's sexual reproductive health advocacy and has contributed to the development of policies that affect adolescents and young people in Kenya. He has over 8 years’ experience in advocacy led initiatives both locally, national and global levels. He has represented young people on international platforms, advocating for their sexual and reproductive health agenda. He is a self-driven and hardworking young professional with good interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills. He is one of the 25x25 She Decides global young champions, representing Kenya among the other 24 young leaders from over 24 different countries across the globe.
In 2018, he led a successful session in Norway for over 30 youth leaders from 30 different nationalities on how to use theater as a tool for effective and meaningful youth participation with key policymakers. He served as chairperson of the National Youth Steering Committee under the Y-ACT project from 2018-2020. In his chairmanship at Y-ACT, he provided leadership to the Y-ACT secretariat, oversaw the branding of Y-ACT, provided technical support to the development of Y-ACT’s first ever strategic plan, and supported the development of a meaningful youth engagement framework. Evans was one of the nominees for the 120 under 40 young leaders of Family Planning in 2018 under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
In 2019, he led adolescents and young people across Kenya in the collection of voices and opinions in the form of commitments to be submitted during the International Conference on Population and Development in Nairobi-Kenya. In the same year, he represented Kenya as a young delegate in Egypt in the development of the Youth Model for the ICPD (International Conference on Population and Development), which was submitted during the ICPD Summit in Nairobi-Kenya. His efforts contributed to both the international and national commitments made, formally known as the Nairobi Commitments.
In 2020, he led a delegation of over 1,000 youths from across Kenya in submitting a communique to H.E. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta (President of Kenya by then) through a national campaign called Kenya Ni Mimi as the National ambassador for the campaign. He spoke on behalf of Kenyan youth and read the Kenya Ni Mimi youth manifesto.
Mr. Evans has won awards, accolades, and recognitions in his name for his outstanding work in the community with young people. In 2013, he was awarded through a competitive process the title of Coast Young Leader in the field of advocacy on Human Rights and Good governance hosted by MUHURI. In 2018, he received a scholarship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to attend the International Conference on Family Planning in Kigali, Rwanda, to submit his best practices of the work he continues doing with adolescents and young people. In 2018, Evans won from a very highly competitive live pitch competition a sum of 20,000 euros from AmplifyChange to implement an advocacy project with adolescents and young people in SRH advocacy in Mombasa County, He is the 25x25 She Decides Generation of Change Global young leader.
